Data Scientist – PRUNE Project

Description

EHT S.C.p.A. is an IT group founded in Sicily and operating nationwide, which designs, coordinates, and implements complex digital solutions for the public and private sectors. The company brings together technological expertise, production capabilities, and specialized know-how through a collaborative model involving innovative companies, promoting research, development, and digital transformation across various fields of application.

Within EHT, the R&DI – Research, Development & Innovation Business Unit serves as the project and technology engine for industrial research, experimental development, and applied innovation initiatives. The BU works on multidisciplinary projects that integrate digital, scientific, environmental, territorial, and technology transfer expertise, with the goal of transforming research into concrete, measurable, and high-impact solutions.

The selected candidates will be assigned to the PRUNE project, an initiative funded under the RETI – Puglia program, with EHT as the lead organization and the participation of public and private partners. The project aims to create an innovative digital platform for the sustainable management of marine-coastal environments, with a particular focus on the management of Posidonia oceanica residues, through data lakes, field observations, open data, marine weather forecasts, predictive models, and Artificial Intelligence components.

The team’s planned operational headquarters is in Lecce, in the heart of Salento, a strategic location for fostering connections between research, business, the environment, and innovation.

’s Role EHT S.C.p.A. is seeking a Data Scientist to join the R&DI Business Unit and participate in the PRUNE project.
The candidate will contribute to the development of models for analyzing, forecasting, and interpreting the data that underpin the project’s digital platform. The goal is to transform data from various sources—field observations, environmental measurements, marine weather data, open data, and spatial information—into tools for understanding, predicting, and managing complex phenomena related to marine and coastal environments.
Specifically, the project involves nowcasting and forecasting coastal conditions, predicting the accumulation of Posidonia oceanica plant debris, and developing early warning systems based on Explainable Artificial Intelligence components. This is therefore an opportunity with high scientific and technological content, aimed at those who wish to apply data science, machine learning, and AI to concrete problems of environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities The candidate will work on the collection, cleaning, analysis, and modeling of heterogeneous datasets, contributing to the development of predictive models and decision-support tools. They will be responsible for developing machine learning and AI algorithms, validating models against experimental data, and adapting them based on feedback from pilot tests and field activities.
They will also be involved in developing tools for data processing, visualization, and interpretation, with a particular focus on ensuring the results are understandable even to non-technical stakeholders. The role therefore requires the ability to combine scientific rigor, analytical expertise, and effective communication.

Ideal Profile
We are looking for a candidate with advanced training in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or related fields. A master’s degree is required; a Ph.D. or research experience is a plus.
Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch is essential. Experience with raw, incomplete, or heterogeneous data is appreciated, as is familiarity with statistical modeling, experimental design, big data, and cloud environments.
In addition to technical skills, we seek curiosity, critical thinking, autonomy, the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to communicate complex results clearly and in an impact-oriented manner.

What We Offer
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on an R&D project with a significant environmental and regional impact, applying advanced technologies to a concrete and challenging use case. The role will allow you to grow both technically and scientifically, as well as in your ability to transform models and analyses into useful tools for real-world decision-making.

Why Apply to th
