SAMOTHRACE

Sicilian MicronanoTech Research and Innovation Center

What is SAMOTHRACE

The SAMOTHRACE Innovation Ecosystem aims to build on Sicily’s tradition in microelectronics and micro- and nanotechnologies, expanding their impact on industry and society. Its activities focus on six key areas: energy, health, smart mobility, the environment, cultural heritage, and smart agriculture.

What is proposed

The SAMOTHRACE Innovation Ecosystem aims to promote Sicily’s tradition in microelectronics and micro- and nanotechnologies, expanding their impact on industry and society. Activities focus on six main areas: energy, health, smart mobility, the environment, cultural heritage, and smart agriculture.
EHT participates in the project through five initiatives in Spokes 7 and 8:
• SOLUM (Spoke 7): development of a platform (“Sensors and Algorithms Test Lab”) to test IoT sensors and artificial intelligence algorithms with a focus on edge computing, applied to smart mobility.
• PLACHE (Spoke 7): an extension of SOLUM, the platform is adapted to enhance the cultural heritage experience through advanced IoT technologies.
• GRES (Spoke 7): creation of a high-definition weather forecasting platform to optimize renewable energy production.
• SEFORE (Spoke 7): development of an IoT system for flood forecasting in small river basins.
• Digital Twin Hospital (Spoke 8): implementation of a software platform to provide remote healthcare and tele-assistance services to frail or elderly patients.
